Winter School on Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Systems for Marine and Coastal Monitoring

Porto, Portugal, 15-26 January, 2018

Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto - Room I-105

MarineUAS is an international research training program network on “Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Systems for Marine and Coastal Monitoring” for highly motivated young scientists, where state-of-the-art research is combined with a comprehensive training program. MarineUAS  addresses the needs of European companies and society for unmanned aerial systems for marine and coastal monitoring, through training on cutting edge research in this rapidly emerging interdisciplinary field. The network is funded by the European Community’s Horizon 2020 Framework programme, under the Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Network scheme.

The MarineUAS network will offer a two-week intensive international winter school that integrates technical topics, application case studies and field demonstrations.

The school is organized around a set of:

  1. twenty talks (including four keynotes) covering several subjects in the scope of Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Systems for Marine and Coastal Monitoring,
  2. a full day dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship topics,
  3. practical modules including algorithm development, software integration, and simulation, where the participants will have the opportunity to participate in a set of robotic challenges (mini-projects) organized by the partners of the MarineUAS network,
  4. demonstration and field tests, where UPORTO makes available the LSTS vehicles as well as the LSTS software toolchain.

Participants are expected to have a background in robotics and in particular on autonomous unmanned aerial systems. They should also bring their own laptop to attend hands-on sessions.

Application:

The school is open to PhD students and researchers, perspective participants should register here and send an email to winter.school.marineuas@lsts.pt with CV and one recommendation letter.

The registration is free of charge (lunches are offered by the organizers). Participants take in charge their travel and accommodation.

The school is limited to 40 participants. The application deadline is December 16th. Notification of acceptance will be made on December 18th.

MarineUAS Challenge

Group of several participants involving in a mini-project in the scope of MarineUAS that include research work with software integration and simulation, hardware-in-the-loop tests, and (if possible) field tests. To this end, UPORTO makes available the LSTS vehicles (in particular the AUVs and the multi-rotors that can land in the water) as well as the LSTS software toolchain
